Tips for Healthy Sleep Hygiene (Contd.)
- Limit the screen time: Try to avoid watching any screen (mobile phones, Television, Tablets) at least 1 to 2 hours before going to bed.
- Avoid Naps: It is advisable to avoid taking naps during the day. If you do need one try to take a nap of less than 1 hour, and before 3 PM.
- Sleep Rituals: You can develop your rituals/practices like performing meditation, or breathing exercises, or sit calmly with a cup of caffeine-free tea.
- Right Space for Sleeping: It is important that your bed and your bedroom should have a quiet and comfortable environment for a good sleep.
- Avoid Watching Clock: While having a struggle to sleep, many people tend to look at the clock frequently. This might become an habit and disturb your sleep schedule and also reinforce negative thoughts, like “it’s so early, I have only slept for 5 hours, this is terrible.”
The main key for a peaceful sleep is maintaining a consistent sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at the same time daily, even on weekends, to ensure a stable sleeping routine for the body.
