Relaxation Techniques for Non-Communicable Diseases
Relaxation Techniques for Non-Communicable Diseases
- Relaxation techniques are practices to help bring about the body’s “relaxation response,” which is characterized by slower breathing, lower blood pressure, and a reduced heart rate.
- Some relaxation techniques may help children and adolescents with pain, anxiety and depression, headaches, or difficulty with needle-related procedures.
Steps
- Sit in a quiet place with your eyes closed.
- Relax your muscles.
- Silently repeat a word, phrase, sound, or short prayer. Eg. peace, love, calmness.
- When stray thoughts interfere (as they will), let them come and go and return to your word, phrase, or sound.
