Regional and Demographic Trends (India)
  • Hypertension prevalence in adults (15–49): 13–25%; diabetes: 2–7%, increasing with age, urbanization, and obesity (Rana et al., 2024; Rajpal et al., 2025).
  • Northeast India shows the highest prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, tobacco, and alcohol use (Rajpal et al., 2025).
  • In the case of Diabetes,States in southern India tended to have greater age-standardised prevalence, and states in central India and northeastern India tended to have lower agestandardised diabetes prevalence (Sekher et al., 2025)
  • Urban areas have higher prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, and key risk factors than rural areas (Marbaniang et al., 2021).
  • The states with the highest age-standardised diabetes prevalence among adults aged 45 years or older were Chandigarh (36·9% ), Kerala (36·0% ), and Puducherry (36·0%)(Sekher et al., 2025)
